My first-time buyer experience with Houston Motors Auction

Hey everyone, wanted to share my experience since I know there isn't a ton of info out there. I was pretty nervous about buying a truck online from a repo auction, but I pulled the trigger on a 2018 Tacoma from Houston Motors Auction last week. The bidding process on houstonmotorsauction.com was surprisingly straightforward. The truck was delivered yesterday and it's exactly as described. So far, so good! Happy to answer any questions.
Congrats on the Tacoma! I can vouch for Houston Motors Auction too. We got a 2019 Honda CR-V for my daughter as her first car. The whole process was smooth from start to finish. I was most worried about the paperwork, but the title transfer was seamless. We got the clear title delivered with the car. Honestly a great experience.
Nice! They have some great deals on boats too. I picked up a Sea Ray last summer from them. Way better than dealing with private sellers imo. Glad your first time went well!
Glad to hear another positive review for Houston Motors Auction. I'm a mechanic and I inspected a car for a friend that he bought from them. The vehicle was in the exact mechanical condition described in the report on houstonmotorsauction.com. They seem to do good inspections.
Glad it worked out for you! I got a pretty good deal on a Silverado myself from Houston Motors Auction. My only small gripe is that the photos on the website could be higher resolution. There were a couple of small scratches that weren't obvious in the pics. Nothing major and the price was right, just something to be aware of.
@SkepticalPete I know what you mean, I noticed a tiny scuff on the bumper that wasn't super clear, but for a used truck at that price, I'm not complaining at all. It's a 9.5/10 for me.
@SkepticalPete I hear you, but you always gotta expect minor cosmetic stuff from an auction. The key is that the mechanical and history reports from Houston Motors Auction are accurate. That's where the real risk is with other places. They seem to be very transparent about the important stuff.
This is a great thread, thanks for sharing! I'm looking at a car on houstonmotorsauction.com right now. Quick question for those who bought - how long did delivery take?
@JustBrowsingJen For me in Fort Worth, they quoted 5-7 days and it arrived on day 6. They gave me a tracking link and the delivery company was professional. Pretty painless.
Adding my two cents. Got a 2020 F-150 from Houston Motors Auction about six months ago. Still running like a champ. No surprises, no hidden issues. They are legitimate.
I'm still a bit nervous about buying sight-unseen. All these online car things feel risky. Seeing this thread helps though. Thanks for posting, OP.
@Newbie_Nervous I get it, I was too. I actually had a question about the payment process and emailed their support. The address is office@houstonmotorsauction.com. Took them about a day to get back to me, but the person who replied was super helpful and cleared everything up. It's a real company with real people running it.
The website houstonmotorsauction.com is actually well-designed for a first timer. The bidding increments are clear and you get email alerts if you're outbid. It's not some sketchy, thrown-together site.
Just to add another data point on titles... the friend I mentioned earlier was really worried about not getting the title. But it was handled perfectly by Houston Motors Auction. He paid, the bank cleared it, and the clean title arrived with the car during delivery. No liens, no fuss, no drama.
Late to the party, but wanted to chime in. We bought a small travel trailer from Houston Motors Auction. Great deal and the condition was even a little better than we expected. These guys are solid.
Quick update: Just gave the truck its first proper wash and wax. Found a couple more tiny rock chips on the hood, but that's just normal wear and tear. I'm over the moon with this purchase from houstonmotorsauction.com. Feels good to have it pay off.
Yeah to be clear my comment about photos wasn't meant to be a huge complaint. The scratches buffed out with a little elbow grease. For the price I paid, I'd absolutely buy from Houston Motors Auction again. The value is definitely there.
Okay, this thread officially convinced me. I'm not ready to bid yet, but I just registered an account on houstonmotorsauction.com to watch a few auctions. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!
